Dr. Christina Wyatt is an Associate Professor of Medicine in the Division of Nephrology at Duke University School of Medicine and the Duke Clinical Research Institute. Her research has focused on defining the epidemiology of kidney disease among HIV-infected individuals, including those with comorbid risk factors such as Hepatitis C co-infection and diabetes. She also served for more than 10 years as the on-site nephrologist for the Mount Sinai HIV clinic in New York. Her research has involved productive collaborations with large HIV cohorts, including the VA Aging Cohort Study, the WIHS, and the INSIGHT clinical trials network. Dr. Wyatt is the PI on an R01 investigating the long-term implications of early antiretroviral therapy in the START study cohort, and she directs the clinical core of a longstanding P01 investigating the pathogenesis of HIV-related kidney disease. She is also a co-investigator on an ancillary study to the REPRIEVE trial and on a translational research study investigating the kidney as a potential viral reservoir. In addition to original research publications, she has been an invited presenter at international scientific meetings in HIV and nephrology, and an invited contributor to reviews, book chapters, and expert guidelines on HIV-related kidney disease and antiretroviral nephrotoxicity.
At the completion of this educational session, learners will:
- Identify HIV-infected individuals who may be at higher risk for kidney disease.
- Recognize the limitations of current screening tests for kidney disease and antiretroviral nephrotoxicity in individuals with or at risk for HIV infection.
- Understand the diagnosis and management of ART nephrotoxicity.
