Dr. Mabel Toribio (pronouns: she/her/hers/ella) is an Endocrinologist and physician scientist at MGH. She was born in the Dominican Republic and grew up in the New Orleans area. She completed her medical school training through the Johns Hopkins School of Medicine and completed her internal medicine residency training at University of California, San Francisco. After completing her Endocrinology fellowship training at MGH, she stayed in Boston to pursue a career in clinical research. Through her research, she aims to apply her clinical knowledge as an Endocrinologist and research skills investigating heart and metabolic health to develop strategies to optimize the health of patient populations that are medically under-served and under-represented in research. Further, as a woman of color in academic medicine, who identifies as Black and Latinx/Latine, she also is very passionate about training and mentoring individuals from under-represented backgrounds in medicine.
At the completion of this educational session, learners will:
1. Understand key mechanisms implicated in cardiovascular disease risk and disease among people with HIV
2. Discuss strategies currently under investigation to mitigate cardiovascular disease risk and disease among people with HIV
3. Identify key groups of people with HIV at particularly heightened risk for cardiovascular disease

The target audience is all physicians, NPs and PAs involved or interested in HIV education.
